Ochsner Medical Center
New Orleans, LA
Waldene Walpole recently underwent valve replacement surgery at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans and required a 30-day follow-up as part of registry requirements to permit hospital reimbursement. Ms. Walpole was considered “high risk for loss-to-follow-up,” in part because she lives in Monroe, nearly 300 miles away from the institution where she had her procedure performed.
Two members of our Groundbreakers team identified the patient as part of our HERO project. We contacted Ms. Walpole's referring physician and team in Monroe and invited them to join the HERO network. The visit was scheduled with the patient, and all of the appropriate credentialing and training processes were completed.
Hawthorne Effect then took the follow-up visit to the patient in Monroe, using our data collection software and mobile diagnostic tools. 100% of the required data was collected without the patient being required to navigate hospital buildings or wait in the lobby. She was thrilled to be spared the 4.5-hour drive each way, especially just before the holidays. And the completed data was provided immediately to the institution.
The Monroe visit encapsulated the values built into the Hawthorne Effect system – better patient retention, more comprehensive data collection, improved data accuracy, and higher patient satisfaction. Thanks to everyone involved!
